When to refer for EMG
If your patient’s condition is caused by a disease that damages muscle tissue, nerves or neuromuscular junctions, electromyography (EMG) is indicated. Your patients may present with peripheral neuropathy, herniated disc or a neuromuscular disorder.
EMG helps Dr. Jahnke find the cause of weakness or numbness by studying the electrical activity within muscles at rest and at work. The symptoms may originate in a muscle, the nerves supplying a muscle, the spinal cord or the area of the brain that controls muscular activities.
